Kendra Copanas

After 20+ years of dedicated service to the Generate Health mission, Kendra Copanas will step down as executive director at the end of 2024. During her tenure, Generate Health grew exponentially and stabilized from a start-up nonprofit to a well-respected leader in maternal and child health. The staff grew from 1 employee to 15 and over $25 million was raised and invested in innovative, community-led initiatives.

Today, Generate Health is looked to as a model of organizational commitment to racial equity, responsiveness to Black families, community-led and driven initiatives, and a backbone organization trusted by both community and organizational partners.

“It has been my greatest honor to lead Generate Health. As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, there is a strong legacy of success and credibility in place, and I am grateful to have been part of this legacy. Generate Health is in a great place– we have an ambitious strategic plan and a strong team and stable funding focused on its implementation. And we have a succession plan that taps exceptional internal leadership poised to move Generate Health into the future.”  -Kendra Copanas

Rose Anderson-Rice

The Board of Directors is grateful for Kendra’s visionary leadership and supports her decision to pursue other professional and personal goals. The organization has planned and prepared for succession and the Board is excited to announce the selection of Rose Anderson-Rice to be the next Executive Director, effective January 1, 2025.

Rose has served as Chief Program Director and Deputy Director since 2015 and has played a crucial role in all the significant mission and organizational transformations during her tenure. She has deep relationships, trust and credibility with our staff, community leaders, partners, donors, and Board of Directors. Under Rose’s passionate leadership, Generate Health will continue to build collective power for racially equitable policies and practices that center, support and celebrate Black families.

We hope you will join us September 26 for the Annual Standing Up for Black Mothers and Babies Awards Event where we will celebrate our 25th Anniversary, acknowledge Kendra’s legacy and welcome Rose as our future leader. And stay tuned this fall to learn more about Rose and her passion for Generate Health’s mission and vision.
