Making Change Happen Leadership Academy
Empowering Parents to Become Advocates for Their Families, Neighborhoods and Our Community
The voice of community members is often missing from policy and systems development decisions. To change that, we formed the Making Change Happen Leadership Academy – powered by Generate Health. This program is unique to St. Louis and trains community members to identify conditions and core issues in their neighborhoods that impact their health and plan strategies for addressing them. The program then helps participants build their leadership skills to advocate for the needs of moms and children and to bring positive change to their own neighborhoods and our region.
Community members from the Academy have attended child advocacy days in Jefferson City to lobby on issues, such as Medicaid expansion and legislation impacting child care and early education. Local media and organizations have invited them to speak and educate our community about the challenges families face. Their personal stories have changed minds and inspired other to support the needs of women and children.
Generate Health is elevating the community’s voice through this unique program to drive the right type of change for our region.
Our work in this area includes:
It’s helped me to see that what I have to say and what I want to say is important and needs to be heard.

Before the Academy, I was just a woman with kids, now I am parent leader.
